From pain to purpose. My story as a therapist.
If you're tired of feeling this way… I get it!
Maybe you've been holding it together on the outside while quietly falling apart inside. Maybe you've tried to push through — telling yourself you should be fine by now. Maybe you've lost touch with who you are, what you want, or why everything feels so heavy.
You don't need to figure this out alone. And you don't have to keep pretending you're okay.
I'm Mattie Chein, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I help adults move through pain, trauma, and identity challenges — and come out the other side with clarity, self-trust, and a life that actually feels like theirs.
The Beginning
From an early age, I had an unusually deep attunement to the emotions of those around me. That sensitivity became one of my greatest strengths. It also came with a cost.
At fifteen, I fell into a profound depression. My mind felt like a battlefield, and I couldn't understand why. For years, I tried to manage it alone — through silence, willpower, and performance. Eventually, I made the decision to ask for help.
That decision changed everything.
The Healing
Therapy gave me what I had been searching for: language, clarity, and a path forward. It wasn't instant — healing rarely is — but it gave me a framework for understanding myself that I carry into my work every day.
I trained across multiple modalities, worked with skilled clinicians, and studied the mind through both rigorous professional training and lived experience. Through that process, I arrived at a truth I now bring to every client:
Healing isn't about erasing pain. It's about learning to live with yourself — with honesty, and with grace.
I became a therapist because I know what it means to feel broken, ashamed, and unseen. I also know how transformative it is to finally feel understood. That knowledge isn't theoretical. I've sat in the client's chair — and it's exactly why I'm effective in it.
Today, my practice integrates EMDR, CBT, DBT, Somatic Work, and Inner Child Healing. I tailor every session to your individual history and nervous system — because effective therapy is never one-size-fits-all.
Beyond the Therapy Room
I’ve lived in multiple countries, stepped away from the religious community I grew up in, and learned to embrace my journey, including living with alopecia. These experiences shape how I show up: grounded, open-minded, non-judgmental, and deeply human.
My goal is to help you find yourself. And we will work together, utilizing tools and personalized therapies that will help give your life purpose again. If you’re ready to begin your own journey back to yourself, let’s start together.
