You won’t need to explain.
I’m Mattie Chein, LCSW. I work with Jewish clients from secular, Reform and Conservative to Modern Orthodox, Chabad and Orthodox, online in New York and California. Whether it’s family expectations, dating, religious identity, faith transitions or community pressures, my goal is to help you feel understood.
No pressure, just a conversation to see if I can help you.

In a close community, even asking for help can feel like everyone will know.
Sessions are online, from wherever you are, with no waiting room to be seen in. And you don’t have to have everything figured out before you start.

My work is especially informed by years of experience helping Jewish clients navigate anxiety, relationships, perfectionism, religious OCD (scrupulosity), life transitions, and balancing personal growth with deeply held values.
My Master of Social Work is from Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and I’m licensed in New York and California. Together we’ll understand the patterns keeping you stuck and develop practical coping skills, in a way that aligns with your values and goals.
No pressure, just a conversation to see if I can help you.
Processing old memories
A structured technique that helps your brain file away painful memories, so they stop hijacking your present.
Untangling your thoughts
Spots the automatic thoughts behind anxiety, perfectionism or self-doubt, and helps you build steadier ones.
Handling big emotions
Practical skills for staying steady in hard moments, and for boundaries that hold, with family too.
Working with the body
Uses breath and body awareness to calm a nervous system that talking alone can't reach.
Healing old wounds
Helps the hurt parts of you feel heard, and builds a calmer attention you can use anywhere.
Your pace, your values
No rigid formula. Therapy shouldn’t look the same for everyone, so your plan is built around your life.
A 15-minute consult
We talk briefly about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re looking for, and whether we’re the right fit.
Getting to know each other
I want to understand your story: what brought you here, what you’ve tried, and what you want to feel different. Then we map out where to start.
Sessions that build
We work on the patterns keeping you stuck, with practical tools you can use between sessions, at a pace that’s right for you.
A free 15-minute consult, no pressure. Say what’s going on in your own words and hear how we could work together. Sessions are online, for adults anywhere in New York and California.
Both, and everyone in between. I work with Jewish clients across the spectrum, including people whose relationship to religion is changing, so you won’t need to explain the cultural context. My goal is to support your goals. Whether you want to deepen your religious connection, step back, or explore what feels right for you, we’ll work together toward the life you want.
Yes. Sessions are online, from wherever you are, so there’s no waiting room to be seen in. What you share stays confidential and isn’t passed to family, a shadchan or anyone else without your permission. The only exceptions are a risk of harm to yourself or others, or where the law requires it.
Yes, with your permission. When a question touches on halacha, as it often does with religious OCD, I’m glad to consult your rav so your therapy and your practice point the same way.
I do not accept insurance at this time. However, I can provide you with a superbill you may submit to your insurer for potential reimbursement as an out-of-network provider.
